Let it Bloom June!
Happy Monday, a pinch and a punch.
For me June is all about getting outdoors and enjoying the wildlife around us. The highlight of my week last week was seeing some Bee Orchids at a site I regularly visit as well as some fledgling birds in my garden. Here are some small steps you could take to get outdoors and give nature a helping hand.
The no mow movement is growing beyond May as people are starting to see their monoculture lawns turn into biodiverse grasslands with arrange of plant species and visiting insects. It’s time for Let it bloom June! My little wildflower strip in my garden is just starting to grow. Our resident hedgehog is loving it! For more tips on boosting diversity in your garden check out the Plantlife International website.
A really simple and fun way to get involved in Citizen Science is the Buglife Bugs Matter survey. It is a vital survey which helps to monitor population trends, address causes of insect loss, halt and reverse them. It's as simple as counting the bug splats on your car number plate after a journey and submitting the data on an app.
You can also join the The Woodland Trust Trust Nature’s Calendar recording scheme to track the changing by recording specific species at sites near you. The results of the calendar will help to understand how nature is affected by the trend of increasing temperatures.
Last but not least, The Wildlife Trusts are running 30 days wild this June which is a great way to take a breath and notice nature this June. You choose one wild thing each day (or a few each week). Great for getting children involved, connecting in nature and noticing the wild on your doorstep.
Let me know about your nature discoveries!
